Available area, load coverage and battery charging determine which configurations qualify. Explore all five tools and learn how each one works.

MySun S / S+

Set the area available for panels.

The area limit excludes configurations whose calculated panel area exceeds the space you specify.

  • Choose “Do not apply an area limit” to compare without an area constraint.
  • Or apply the limit and enter the available area and the area of one panel in m². Both values must be greater than zero.
  • Used area equals panel count multiplied by the panel area you enter. Update this value when comparing panels with different dimensions.

Worked example

With 20 m² available and 2 m² per panel, the area limit permits at most 10 panels. Coverage and electrical connection requirements must also be met.

This is a total panel-area check; it does not model geometric layout or spacing for shadows.

MySun S / S+

Control how much load energy is covered.

This factor compares the energy batteries deliver to the load with the energy the load needs over your entered usage hours.

How is the factor calculated?

Energy delivered to the load ÷ required load energy

  • Choose “Require coverage ≥ 1” to accept configurations that cover at least 100% of the required load energy.
  • Or specify an interval: the minimum must be greater than zero and the maximum must exceed the minimum.
  • A factor of 1 means 100%; 1.2 means 120%. Allowing values below 1 permits partial load coverage.

Worked example

For a 4.4 kWh load, an interval of 1 to 1.2 accepts delivered energy from 4.4 to 5.28 kWh, provided the other conditions are met.

Delivered energy in this calculation uses the battery energy available at the specified depth of discharge (DOD), then applies inverter efficiency.

MySun S / S+

Set the battery charging coverage.

This factor compares calculated solar energy after environmental and electrical efficiency factors with battery energy available at the specified depth of discharge (DOD).

How is the factor calculated?

Effective solar energy ÷ available battery energy

  • Choose “Require coverage ≥ 1” so calculated solar energy is at least equal to available battery energy.
  • Or enter a custom minimum of 1 or greater.
  • Raising the minimum increases the solar energy requirement and may require more panels, area and cost.

Worked example

For 5 kWh of available battery energy, a minimum factor of 1.2 requires at least 6 kWh of effective solar energy.

Energy coverage measures how well the load is supplied; charging coverage compares solar production with available battery energy.

Add a custom battery capacity.

Use “Add Custom Battery” to include another capacity in the comparison, then complete its specifications in the table.

  1. Select the add button below the battery list to open the capacity dialog.
  2. Enter a positive whole-number capacity in ampere-hours (Ah), then select “Add”.
  3. Complete the new row with battery voltage, available DOD and unit price. Keep its checkbox selected to include it in the comparison.

Enter DOD as a value greater than zero and at most 1: for example, 0.8 means 80%. Adding an existing capacity does not create a duplicate row.

The × button removes a row. “Restore Defaults” brings back missing default capacities while retaining custom rows and existing entries.

Add a custom solar panel rating.

Use “Add Custom Panel” to include another power rating in the comparison, then complete the panel specifications and price.

  1. Select the add button below the panel list to open the power-rating dialog.
  2. Enter a positive whole-number Pmax rating in watts (W), then select “Add”.
  3. Complete the new row with the voltage at maximum power (Vmp) and unit price. Keep its checkbox selected to include it in the comparison.

Adding an existing power rating does not create a duplicate row. Only checked rows with complete required values are compared.

The × button removes a row. “Restore Defaults” brings back missing default ratings while retaining custom rows and existing entries.

How do BASIC, S and S+ differ?

BASIC provides system sizing and results. S adds lowest-cost calculation using the listed component types. S+ also lets you add other panel and battery types.

What inputs do I need?

Prepare your load power and usage hours, inverter, battery and panel specifications, peak sun hours and environmental factors. For cost comparison, also enter component prices and the required constraints.

Can I save and share results?

Yes. Export your inputs and results as a PDF. The report shows the selected data and its creation date.

How do I get help with activation?
